Continued -the idea was that if this were to be allowed, it would set a dangerous precedent that people can choose not to practice this part of religion which is obligatory under the Islamic faith.

Very well done, enjoying this well researched and nicely summarized podcast! Please keep it up. I have however a small critique to this episode. You mentioned that Abu Bakr threatened those who refused to pay taxes with wars, it is necessary to mention that those “taxes” are in fact the “zakat” which is part of the Islamic faith practice. The sharp tone took with those refusing to pay is based on a religious more than merely a political or economical reason.
